Jason Zavala is a jack of all trades solo artist. He writes catchy, Bowie-esque songs that include a combination of falsetto, drama, and sometimes electric kazoo. Zavala uses song writing to process life’s challenges – topics on which we can all relate: getting laid off, having your heart broken, falling in love. Instead of simply venting, he uses his music as a way to find personal meaning and to move forward. Although Zavala wears his heart on his sleeve, make no mistake, the treatment of these universal topics is never contrived or t0 write. Zavala is a master at combining melody and imagery to create a product that is complex yet relatable – and ultimately listenable. Recent reviews have also described this phenomena on of the unassuming underdog rising above the noise. Loud vine describes Zavala’s sound as “ lo-fi glam rock for the timid to rise and the unmotivated to rally. ” discosalt shares this sentiment, describing Jason as “ a mild mannered individual that turns in to a theatrical hell – beast on stage. ” The current album, Not Yet Known, is an ongoing recording project. Zavala is handcrafting and recording one song at a time and releasing it for free on the web as he finishes. Zavala got his start in the Lexington, KY music scene and currently resides in Cambridge, MA. He has completed several tours and was invited to SXSW in 2010 .
